The product of Jacksonville, N.C., scored two goals and added two assists as White Oak defeated Kings Mountain, 5-0, to win its fourth straight NCHSAA class 3-A crown and record its first perfect season (22-0). The North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association's Player-of-the-Year, Rose tallied 121 points on 50 goals and 21 assists in leading a White Oak squad that averaged more than seven goals a game. She was also named to the All-State Team for the third consecutive season and named NCHSAA Championship MVP for the second straight season. UNCW finished the 2007 season in fifth place and advanced to the CAA Tournament for the second straight season, where they fell to eventual finalist Virginia Commonwealth in the first round, 3-1.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Blue Devils, meanwhile, return nine starters from last year’s squad that advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA College Cup. The Blue Devils lineup includes 10 players who scored at least one goal last season as well as the core of its defensive corps that posted nine shutouts and allowed just 21 goals.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Duke is coached by Robbie Church, father of former UNCW standout Ashley Church (2004-07). One of Church’s assistants is Carla Overbeck, a former United States National Team member that led the Red, White and Blue to a pair of World Cup titles (1991, 1999) and an Olympic Gold Medal in 1996.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Saturday’s contest is the only preseason exhibition for UNCW. The Seahawks open the regular season Aug. 23 with a home matinee versus South Carolina.
